Tiger Baseball Spring Training Fund

Marietta High School Spring Training

With the generous support of several alumni and friends of Tiger baseball, the 2012 team was able to experience our first spring trip in school history at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach. The 2013 team took an overnight weekend trip to New Richmond High School, a D-II power, which also included a Reds game in nearby Cincinnati.  In 2014, MHS varsity and JV teams spent a weekend playing Southeast District opponents in the Lancaster area and were able to take in a Clippers game at Nationwide Field – site of the OHSAA Championships each year. We raised a lot of money and returned to the Ripken Experience again in 2015, where the Tigers went 2-1 against teams from Kentucky, North Carolina and Virginia.  Our planned trip for the 2016 season to take both teams on a trip north to the Akron area in April was cancelled due to cold and snowy weather.

In 2017 our team was joined by the MHS softball team on another trip to Myrtle Beach.  In mid-April under the warm South Carolina sunshine, both teams practiced and played games at the Ripken Experience complex for three days.   The Tiger baseball team went undefeated on their spring trip (24-4 overall in 2017), which included a no-hit victory over Ohio D-I power Lakewood St. Edward on “getaway day”.  The teams also enjoyed beach time, shopping, dining and a college baseball game at nearby Costal Carolina University, the 2016 National Champions.

All of these trips were made possible by baseball parents, alumni, friends and local businesses that supported our numerous fundraisers and solicitations.    Players from all of these teams will enjoy lifelong memories of their high school baseball trips with their teammates/friends.

Tiger baseball has scheduled a weekend trip in 2018, which will include an ECOL game at Zanesville and a doubleheader at Teays Valley. The team will also enjoy a college game at The Ohio State University during the trip. The coaching staff and players are looking forward to this challenging experience to help generate greater team camaraderie to help propel them to a more successful season.  The trip is an expensive venture and the team has already raised several thousand dollars. Marietta High School’s baseball program would greatly appreciate any financial support from former players, alumni and friends to help cover the anticipated expense. With your help the team will enjoy and grow from their spring trip filled with baseball in 2018. Tentative plans are to return to The Ripken Experience in 2019.
